10 WOMEN

About 10 WOMEN,
PEEP/SHOW ISSUE #1

W
e were reading about how the Rodarte sisters plan their couture lines: like most designers, they come up with a blizzard of images and words to loosely describe and shape their fabric narratives. They also appear to set a lot of things on fire. They enjoy it.

When we put together this first Peep/Show episode of innovative writers, it was in a Rodarte-like flash of looking. Our curatorial choices came to form a kind of polaroid. Some of the women who first came to mind also work in other media, so we decided to wait to invite them for future investigations at Peep/Show. Other women turned out to not have work available in time to be included. So the picture changed. This snapshot, 10 Women, is not meant to be conclusive or canonical. It reflects our roaming tastes at a moment, over the space of a restaurant table; a gathering of work by women who are close friends (old and new), writers we never met, writers we fear, writers we love. We suggest a fluid taxonomy. We would rather set things on fire than carve them in stone.
